MindPop Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 30, 2026
MindPop (“the app”) shows short trivia breaks on your Android device. This policy explains what information the app handles, and why. It is provided by InDevelopment (“we”, “us”).
The short version
- MindPop has no accounts, no ads and no analytics.
- Your settings stay on your device.
- To get trivia questions, the app connects to a free public service, the Open Trivia Database.
- You can buy MindPop Deluxe or leave a tip. These are optional one-time purchases, handled by Google Play and RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives some purchase and device information, described below.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Information stored on your device
MindPop saves these settings on your device, so it can remember your choices:
- the trivia category you picked, and the number of questions per break
- how often breaks should appear, and whether MindPop is turned on
- whether breaks should pause during calls and during Do Not Disturb
- whether breaks arrive as notifications, and the hours when they may ring
- your appearance and theme choices
- whether you own MindPop Deluxe, and the store prices last shown, so the app can show them while offline
- small reminders of what the app has already shown you, such as whether it has explained a permission
This information never leaves your device through MindPop. We cannot see it. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes it.
Your answers and scores are not saved. They are discarded when you close a break.
Device backups
Android can include app settings in your device’s backup to your Google account, if you have backup turned on. That backup is handled by Google under Google’s Privacy Policy, and you can manage it in your device’s settings. We do not have access to it.
Pausing during calls and Do Not Disturb
If you turn these options on, MindPop checks, when a break is due, whether your phone is in a call (including ringing and internet calls) or in Do Not Disturb mode. If it is, the break waits.
MindPop only checks whether a call is in progress or Do Not Disturb is on. It does not see who you are calling, which app you are using for the call, or anything else about it. The result is used on the spot, then discarded. This needs no special permission.
Break notifications and the lock screen
If you turn on break notifications, MindPop can send a break as a notification instead of popping up. During the hours you choose, the notification plays a short chime. Outside those hours, it arrives silently.
To decide how to deliver a break, MindPop checks whether your phone is locked or its screen is off. When you tap a break notification on a locked phone, the quiz can open over the lock screen, so you can answer without unlocking.
On Xiaomi phones, MindPop also checks whether you have allowed its “Show on Lock screen” permission, so it can remind you to turn it on if needed.
These checks only look at the state of your phone at that moment. The results are used on the spot, then discarded. They need no special permission.
Trivia questions from the Open Trivia Database
When a break starts, MindPop requests questions from the Open Trivia Database (opentdb.com). The request only contains:
- how many questions to send
- the category you picked, if any
It contains no personal information. As with any internet connection, the Open Trivia Database’s servers can see your device’s IP address when the request is made. The Open Trivia Database is an independent service, and its own practices apply to that connection. Trivia questions are provided by the Open Trivia Database under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license.
Purchases through Google Play and RevenueCat
MindPop is free. You can choose to pay for:
- MindPop Deluxe, a one-time purchase that unlocks extra themes
- tips, one-time purchases that support MindPop and don’t unlock anything
Here is how purchases work:
- Google Play processes the payment. We never see your card or payment details. Google’s handling of your payment information is described in Google’s Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat is the service we use to manage purchases. When you open the app, RevenueCat gives your device a random, anonymous ID. It is not linked to your name or email. RevenueCat uses it to check whether you own Deluxe, including after a refund, and to load current store prices.
- RevenueCat receives your purchase history for MindPop (such as the product, price, currency and purchase date), basic device and app information (such as operating system version, app version and country), and your IP address.
- When you tap Restore purchase, RevenueCat asks Google Play for the purchases made with the Google account on your device, so Deluxe can come back on a new phone or after reinstalling.
RevenueCat processes this information on our behalf, under the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
We use purchase information only to deliver and verify your purchases, to restore them, to prevent fraud, and to understand how many people support MindPop. We do not use it to identify you, and we do not combine it with other information about you.
Permissions
MindPop asks for these permissions, and uses them only as described:
| Permission | Why MindPop needs it |
|---|---|
| Display over other apps | To show trivia breaks on top of the app you are using. This is the app’s main feature. |
| Internet | To download trivia questions, and to load prices and process purchases. |
| Notifications | To send breaks as notifications, if you turn that on, and to show a short message when your next break is scheduled. This is optional, and pop-up breaks still work without it. |
| Alarms and reminders (exact alarms) | To start each break on time, at the frequency you picked. |
| Run at startup | To restore your break schedule after your device restarts. |
MindPop does not read your screen, your other apps or your taps outside its own breaks.
Links to other websites
MindPop links to other websites, such as the Open Trivia Database, the CC BY-SA 4.0 license, this privacy policy and Don’t kill my app! (a troubleshooting guide for phones that stop background apps). They open in your browser, and their own privacy practices apply.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell or rent your personal information. Purchase information is shared only with Google Play and RevenueCat, so that purchases work. These providers may process information in countries other than your own.
Keeping and deleting information
Your settings stay on your device until you uninstall the app or clear its data.
Purchase records held by Google Play and RevenueCat are kept according to their own policies, and so that you can restore what you bought. Because RevenueCat’s ID is anonymous, we cannot find your records from your name or email. If you want them deleted, contact us and include your Google Play order number (from your purchase receipt), and we will ask RevenueCat to delete the matching records. Deleting them can mean a purchase can no longer be restored.
Your choices and rights
- You can use MindPop without buying anything.
- You can turn the call, Do Not Disturb and break notification options on or off in the app’s settings, and choose the hours when breaks may ring.
- Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, or to object to how it is used. To make a request, contact us using the details below.
Children
MindPop is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through MindPop, contact us and we will help remove it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
